Electric Element Time to Boil

  1. Enter all fields excluding the time field.
  2. Click calculate and your answer will appear in the blank cell.
Start Temperature
(deg C, eg 20)
Target Temperature
(deg C, eg 100)
Water Qty
(litres, eg 30)
Assumed Heat Loss
(%, eg 15)
Element Power Rating
(Watts, eg 2200)
Time to Target Temp
(minutes, eg 30)

Note that this calculator is an approximation only. Real world factors such as wind temperature, losses to your brew kettle and other factors will affect these numbers. Please adjust the heat loss field to account for these enviromental conditions.

When the time to boil is greater than approximately 75 or 80 minutes, you may find that there is not enough energy to keep a constant rolling boil or to achieve a boil. In this case you may consider using a second electric element (To account for this in the calculator, simply double the power rating).
